HIL co-simulation of an optimal hybrid fractional-order type-2 fuzzy PID regulator based on dSPACE for quadruple tank system

Accurate regulation of the liquid level in a quadruple tank system (QTS) is not easy and imposes higherrequirements on control strategies, so the design of controllers in these systems is challenging dueto the difficulty of dynamic analysis of its nonlinear characteristics and parametric uncertainties.To overcome these problems in liquid level regulation and increase the robustness to the pumpcoefficients, this article proposes and investigates the use of an optimal hybrid fractional-ordertype-2 fuzzy-PID (OH-FO-T2F-PID) regulator using a combination of two bio-inspired evolutionaryoptimizers, namely augmented grey wolf optimizer and cuckoo search optimizer, which gives rise tothe new hybrid A-GWOCS algorithm. This control mechanism was chosen to facilitate the convergenceof the water liquids in the two tanks as quickly as possible to the corresponding required values. Inaddition, a collaborative optimization technique with several objectives is used to adjust the regulatorparameters. The capability and efficiency of the suggested regulator is first investigated throughcomputer simulation results and then confirmed by real-time control experimental results on the QTSbased on dSPACE 1104 computation engine. The findings showed that the suggested OH-FO-T2F-PIDregulator significantly outperformed both the optimized ADRC and the OH-FO-T1F-PID regulators.Specifically, it reduced the rising time by 17.02% and 95.21%, respectively, and the settling time by25.13% and 74.28%. Additionally, the designed OH-FO-T2F-PID regulator successfully eliminatedthe steady-state error and overshoot, enabling precise regulation of the QTS, and maintenance theliquid level at the desired set point under a wide range of working situations. Impact of Teff commercialization on smallholder farmers’ food security in Northwestern, Ethiopia

Teff, a versatile crop, serves both as a food source and a cash crop in ethiopia. it is recognizedfor its potential to enhance the income of smallholder farmers, improve food security, andcontribute to sustainable development goals. This study aims to assess the impact of Teffcommercialization by smallholder farmers on food security. Both primary and secondary datawere used using the 2020/2021 cropping season. a three-stage sampling procedure was usedto draw 352 sample households. Food security was assessed using proxy indicators: householddietary diversity and food consumption score. The descriptive statistical results showed that182 (51.7%) and 170 (48.3%) sample households were subsistence, and commercializedhousehold heads respectively. notably, commercial farmers exhibited better household dietarydiversity (91.2%), whereas subsistence farmers scored lower in terms of food consumption(29.1%). Male household headship reduced hddS for commercializing farmers (−1.6); creditusage boosted hddS for commercialized groups (1.1), and livestock ownership improvedhddS for subsistence groups (0.21) in the second-stage endogenous switching regression.The model result also showed that, Teff commercialization positively impacted hddS and FcS,with average treatment effects of 3.81 and 4.46, respectively. Transitional heterogeneity resultsshowed that commercialized farmers had lower household dietary diversity (−0.47) and lowerfood consumption score (−14.19) than subsistence households. in light of these findings,encouraging smallholder farmers to transition from subsistence production to commercializationis crucial for supplementing their overall production. additionally, government efforts shouldfocus on raising awareness about nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices.

Incidence of recovery rate and predictors among hospitalized COVID- 19 infected patients in Ethiopia; a systemic review and meta-analysis

Background Despite global efforts to mitigate COVID-19 infection through vaccination and therapeutic interven-tions, morbidity and mortality rates continued at variable rates. Although mortality risk and clinical features of COVID-19 are well-documented, recovery patterns and prognostic factors post-admission remain inconclusive, particu-larly in resource-limited settings like Ethiopia. This systematic review and meta-analysis (SRM) aimed to estimatethe pooled incidence rate of recovery and predictors among hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Ethiopia.Methods We searched (N = 1,191) articles using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Anal-yses (PRISMA) guideline from PubMed/MEDLINE (N = 755), Scopus (N = 137), Web of Science (N = 84), Science Direct(N = 148), Cochran (N = 25), and Google Scholar searching (N = 42) from December 2019 to February 2024. The datawere extracted using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and exported to Stata TM version 17.0 for further analysis. The Arti-cle quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute checklist. The pooled incidence rate of recovery was esti-mated using a weighted inverse variance random-effects meta-regression. Heterogeneity among studies was evalu-ated using the I2 statistic. Subgroup analyses and sensitivity tests were also conducted to explore publication bias. Thisfile is registered in international Prospero with ID (CRD42024518569).Result Sixteen (N = 16) published studies with 7,676 hospitalized COVID-19 patients were included in the finalreport. The mean age of participants ranged from 29 (± 17) to 57.5 (± 3) years, with male patients constitutingthe largest proportion of participants, 4,491(58.5%). During recovery screening, 6,304(82.21%) cases were dischargedas improved, 159 (2.1%) attriters, and 818 (10.6%) died during inpatient treatment. The pooled incidence of recovery,mortality, and attrition rates were found to be 82.32% (95% CI: 78.81–85.83; I 2 = 94.8%), 14.3% (I2 = 98.45%), and 2.7%(I 2 = 81.34%), respectively. Incidence of recovery rate varied across regions and epidemic phases, with the highest rateobserved in Addis Ababa (89.94%, I 2 = 78.33%) and the lowest reported in the Tigray region (59.7%, I2 = 0.0%). Acrossepidemic phases, the recovery rate was 88.05% (I 2 = 29.56%) in Phase II, 84.09% (I2 = 97.57%) in Phase I, and 78.92%(I 2 = 96.9%) in Phase III, respectively. Factors included being aged 15–30 years (pooled OR = 2.01), male sex (pooledOR = 1.46), no dyspnea (pooled OR = 2.4; I 2 = 79%), and no baseline comorbidities (pooled OR = 1.15; I2 = 89.3%) werepredictors for recovery.Conclusion and recommendation In Ethiopia, more than eight out of ten hospitalized COVID-19 patientsrecovered after inpatient treatment. However, the incidence of recovery rates varied significantly across epidemicphases, study settings, and regions. Factors including younger age, male sex, no dyspnea (shortness of breathing), and no underlying comorbidity heightened recovery. It is highly recommended those inpatients cares should focuson high-risk groups (older adults) and implement standardized treatment protocols in each study setting. By integrating pepper and Black cumin with other crops, small‑scalefarmers in developing countries like ethiopia diversify crop production and improve yields.Most smallholder farmers in ethiopia cultivate plots smaller than one hectare. the landequivalent ratio is a key measure for evaluating intercropping efficiency. However, indicessuch as relative Yield total, Staple land equivalency ratio, Area time equivalency ratio, andArea Harvest equivalency ratio are also applied globally. these indices help assess the benefitsof intercropping in terms of land use and time management. to maximize productivity,farmers must carefully select crops that balance resource competition, resist pests anddiseases, and ensure yields with superior quality. promoting sustainable intercropping practicescan boost agricultural output and contribute to food security in ethiopia and similar regions.

ABSTRACT The main objective of the research is to investigate iron deposit by using petrographic, geochemical, XRD and geophysical results. To achieve the desired objective, secondary data compilation and interpretation, field work and post-field work (including petrographic result, geochemical result, XRD and geophysical result analysis) have been conducted. The study area is comprised of both Mesozoic sedimentary rocks and Tertiary - Quaternary volcanic rocks. The sedimentary rocks include sandstone, limestone, and shale, whereas the volcanic rocks are basalt and trachyte. Ternary diagrams of Al2O3-Fe2O3-SiO2 are commonly used to determine the degree of laterization. As laterization progresses increases, silica is leached out of the rock, leaving behind iron oxides. Fe2O3-rich samples are indicative of higher degrees of lateritization, while SiO2-rich composition experienced weak lateritization (Meyer et al., 2002). Data points for iron ore samples from the study area, were plotted in moderate to strong lateritization field. Hematite, magnetite, goethite and siderite are the primary ore minerals, according to both polished section petrography and XRD investigations. Furthermore, the main gangue phases in the region are anatase, quartz and kaolinite. The mineral concentration is between 20.16 and 71.88% hematite, 7–40% goethite, 1–30 siderite, and 1-3 percent magnetite. Approximately 5–10.5% kaolinite, 3–25% quartz, and 0.5% anatase are among the related gangue minerals. Varying amplitudes of magnetic anomaly signature indicates that the ore body is not evenly distributed along the respective profile across the study area and the ore bodies suspected to be magnetic mineral exist near surface to medium depth which is between 23.33m to 52.5m. Iron occurrence resource estimation was done by a conventional approach methods, such as, resources = A (m2) *T (m) * ρ (g/cm3). Background: Informed consent (IC) is a principle in medical ethics and medical law that a patient must have adequate information and understanding before making decisions about their medical care. It is very essential for both clinician and patient in surgery and should be seen as a usual activity. Knowledge is one of the main intervention tools to improve patient comprehension in informed consent for surgical patients. In Ethiopia, little is known about the knowledge level and its determinant factors toward obstetric and gynecologic surgical informed consent. Due to this reason, this study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and associated factors of surgical informed consent among patients who underwent obstetric and gynecologic surgery at Debre Markos Comprehensive Specialized Hospital.
Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from 28 November to 30 December 2023, among 298 postoperative women admitted to Debre Markos Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. Data were collected using a pretested, structured interviewer-administered questionnaire by using a systematic random sampling technique. The collected data were entered into EpiData version 4.6 and then exported to SPSS statistical software version 25 for analysis. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed to estimate the effect of independent variables on the outcome variable. An adjusted odds ratio [adjusted odds ratio (AOR)] with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was computed to report the presence of association between the dependent and independent variables. Background: Informed consent (IC) is a principle in medical ethics and medical law that a patient must have adequate information and understanding before making decisions about their medical care. It is very essential for both clinician and patient in surgery and should be seen as a usual activity. Knowledge is one of the main intervention tools to improve patient comprehension in informed consent for surgical patients. In Ethiopia, little is known about the knowledge level and its determinant factors toward obstetric and gynecologic surgical informed consent. Due to this reason, this study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and associated factors of surgical informed consent among patients who underwent obstetric and gynecologic surgery at Debre Markos Comprehensive Specialized Hospital.
Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from 28 November to 30 December 2023, among 298 postoperative women admitted to Debre Markos Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. Data were collected using a pretested, structured interviewer-administered questionnaire by using a systematic random sampling technique. The collected data were entered into EpiData version 4.6 and then exported to SPSS statistical software version 25 for analysis. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed to estimate the effect of independent variables on the outcome variable. Background Providing timely first-aid by trained responders can reduce deaths and disabilities from road trafficaccidents, a leading global cause of death. Ethiopia ranks 19th worldwide and 4th in Africa. Therefore, this studyassesses the knowledge and, attitudes toward emergency first aid, and its factors among public transport drivers inInjibara, Ethiopia.Objective To assess the Knowledge, and Attitude towards first-aid utilization and its associated factors among PublicTransport Service Drivers in Injibara, Northwest Ethiopia, 2023.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 419 public transport drivers, selected systematicallybased on vehicle side numbers, starting with a random choice for the first respondent. Subsequent participants werechosen at every second interval (k = 2). A structured questionnaire was used to collect relevant data. Binary logisticregression was performed using SPSS V.26 to assess the associations between independent and dependent variables.The strength of these associations was measured using odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals, with a P-value < 0.05deemed statistically significant.Result The study revealed that the prevalence of good knowledge and favorable attitudes toward first-aid utilizationwas 33.2% and 38.2%, respectively. Participation in first-aid training (AOR = 0.566, p = 0.027), access to a first-aid kit(AOR = 1.65, p = 0.027), and prior experience using first-aid at accident scenes (AOR = 0.476, p = 0.014) were factorsassociated with better first-aid utilization. Drivers who had used a first-aid kit (AOR = 0.476, p = 0.014) and thoseexposed to training (AOR = 0.486, p = 0.034) demonstrated more positive attitudes toward first aid.Conclusion The knowledge and attitude toward first-aid utilization remain low. Participation in first-aid training,access to first-aid kits, and experience using them during accidents were factors associated with improvedknowledge. Additionally, drivers who have used first-aid kits and received training tend to have a favorable attitude
toward their use. Small scale irrigation (SSI) technologies offer a promising solution to address challenges of low agricultural productivity, unreliable rainfall, and rural poverty in Ethiopia. However, their performance and sustainability remain inconsistent, particularly in regions like East Gojjam Zone, Amhara Region. This study aimed to assess the adoption trends, performance challenges, and economic viability of furrow irrigation and motor pump systems across two districts Debre Elias and Machakel. A cross sectional, mixedmethods design was employed, drawing on data from 280 smallholder farmers selected through a multistage sampling procedure. Descriptive analysis showed moderate irrigation access, but a 25.4% overall defect rate raised concerns about technology reliability. Binary logistic regression identified income, credit access, and training as key factors reducing defect occurrence, while motor pump use and larger irrigated areas increased risk. Economic analysis revealed that furrow systems were more profitable, yielding a higher five year Net Present Value and Benefit Cost Ratio than motor pumps. Despite these gains, sustainability challenges persisted, including soil degradation and inefficient water use. The study also found notable district level variation, with furrow systems dominating in Debre Elias due to affordability, and topography favoring gravity flow and motor pumps preferred in Machakel for their productivity potential. Qualitative findings highlighted high maintenance costs and limited institutional support as barriers to sustained use. Based on these insights, the study recommends strengthening farmer access to credit, improving training services, and upgrading irrigation technologies to enhance the long term impact of SSI on smallholder livelihoods and agricultural sustainability

Simple random sampling was used for patient selection, and data were collected throughchart reviews and interviewer‐administered questionnaires. Zero‐inflated negative binomial models were applied for dataanalysis. Data collection tools were pre‐tested for reliability and validity.Results: Among 663 patients, 237 (35.7%) were readmitted at least once. An increased respiratory rate (IRR = 1.015; 95%CI: 1.0004, 1.031; p < 0.044) and longer medication duration (IRR = 1.011; 95% CI: 1.016, 1.051; p < 0.0001) were asso-ciated with more readmissions. Patients with poor social support had 59.4% fewer readmissions compared to those withgood social support (IRR = −1.595; 95% CI: −0.02, −0.005; p < 0.041). A higher body mass index (IRR = 0.115; 95% CI:0.035, 0.196; p < 0.004) was linked with a higher likelihood of remaining in the “always‐zero” group, while an increasedpulse rate reduced the odds (IRR = −0.013; 95% CI: −0.025, −0.008; p < 0.036). The mortality rate among readmittedpatients was 11.39%.Conclusion: This study found significant readmission rates among HF patients. Factors such as respiratory rate andmedication duration were linked to increased readmissions, while poor social support was associated with fewerreadmissions, this likely reflects limited healthcare access in low‐ and middle‐income countries among individuals withlower social support. The high mortality rate underscores the need for targeted interventions to improve patientoutcomes.
