Diluted magnetic semiconductors are a recent research area due to their ability to enhance ferromagneticproperties and facilitate the electrical detection of magnetoresistance and polarization. (In, Mn)As dilute mag-netic semiconductor has potential application in the field of spintronic devices, such as spin field-effectivetransistors, spin laser light-emitted diodes, modern technology, multi-functional devices, green technology,and nanotechnology. For this study, we have considered the RKKY interaction between Mn2+ spins via delo-calized carriers. The effect of manganese ion concentration and applied magnetic field on ferromagnetic dilutedmagnetic semiconductor properties such as dispersion relation, Curie temperature, and reduced magnetization of(In, Mn)As are studied. We have developed a spin-wave model using the Holstein-Primakaff transformation.Based on the developed model, the number of ferromagnetic magnons, dispersion relations, and Curie temper-atures were calculated with or without an applied magnetic field. The reduced magnetization is also calculated.The graph of Curie temperature and magnetization of (In,Mn)As versus temperature with applied field up to 6 Tand manganese ion concentration from 0.01 to 0.1 are plotted. The graph of spin wave dispersion of (In,Mn)Asversus a wave vector with varying manganese ion concentration with and without an applied magnetic field up to6 T. In this study, an InMnAs Curie temperature of 290.68 K is found without an applied magnetic field with a 0.1manganese ion concentration, which is near room temperature. Moreover, with an applied magnetic field of 6 Tat 0.1 manganese ion concentration, a Curie temperature of 342.466 K is found, which is above room temper-ature. Hence, these temperatures are suitable for the field of next-generation spintronic new technology.

Effects of spraying chicken eggs with groundnut seed oil and different storage period on the quality and nutritional value

Abstract: The egg quality measurements were undertaken as egg weight loss (%), shell thickness,Haugh unit, yolk height, yolk width, yolk index and albumen height. The non-sprayed chickeneggs showed a higher weight loss percentage of 3.07% within 15 days of storage. However, itwas shown to be lower the weight loss of 0.48% when sprayed. Even though a progressivedecrease in yolk height, albumen height, yolk index and Haugh unit values were shown as thestorage period advances, sprayed eggs which resulted to be greater within each storage periodthan non-sprayed eggs. Non- sprayed eggs stored for 15, 10, 5, and 0 day had a Haugh unit valueof 52.42±2.66, 73.29±6.44, 77.51±3.88 and 85.72 ± 2.85, respectively. Whereas, Haugh unitvalues were shown as 82.43±4.31, 82.90 ±4.43, 84.73 ±3.25 and 85.52±6.37 respectively whichrecorded after spraying. There were significant differences (P < 0.05) in moisture percentage, fatand protein content among non-sprayed eggs kept for different storage period. But percentage ofash and carbohydrate were unaffected. Detection and antibiogram profile of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli isolated from two abattoir settings in northwest Ethiopia: a one health perspective.

Background Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a zoonotic pathogen that contaminates abattoir workers,slaughter environments, slaughter equipment, and carcasses during abattoir processing. Infection with E. coliis associated with the consumption of contaminated food and water, and it is a potential threat to the healthand welfare of both humans and animals. Hence, this study aimed to detect diarrheagenic E. coli and assess itsantibiogram profile in two abattoir settings, in one health lens.Methods A cross-sectional study in one health approach was conducted from December 2020 to June 2021. Atotal of 384 samples from abattoir workers’ hands, carcasses, knives, cattle feces, abattoir water and effluents werecollected. Bacterial culture and biochemical tests were conducted to isolate E. coli, while conventional polymerasechain reaction was performed to identify virulence genes. The antibiogram of diarrheagenic E. coli was tested againstnine antimicrobials using the Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method.Results A total of 115 (29.95%) E. coli were isolated from the 384 samples, and from these isolates, about 17 (14.8%)were confirmed to be diarrheagenic E. coli (DEC). Among the DEC pathotypes, nine (52.94%), five (29.4%), and three(17.65%) were Shiga toxin-producing, enterohemorrhagic, and enterotoxigenic E. coli, respectively. While 14 (82.35%)DEC isolates harbored the stx2 gene, five (29.41%) the eae gene, five (29.41%) the hlyA gene and three (17.65%)harbored the st gene. All the DEC isolates were resistant to erythromycin and vancomycin; whereas, they weresusceptible to ampicillin, nalidixic acid and norfloxacin. Furthermore, 64.7% of DEC isolates showed resistance to bothceftazidime and kanamycin and 88.24% of the isolates showed multidrug resistance.Conclusion This study detected DEC isolates having different virulence genes, which showed single and multipleantimicrobial resistance. Given the existing poor hygienic and sanitary practices along the abattoir-to-table food

Determinants of farmers’ willingness to pay for irrigation improvements in Northcentral Ethiopia

Investing in agricultural water management by improving irrigation schemes helps to establish climate-resilientand sustainable agri-food systems, thus contributing to sustainable poverty reduction. The purpose of this studywas to identify the determinants of farmers’ willingness to pay (WTP) for irrigation water improvements inNorthcentral Ethiopia. Primary data collected from a random sample of 132 households were analyzed using thedouble-bounded contingent valuation method and binary logit regression model to identify what determinesfarmers’ WTP for irrigation improvement. The findings show that farmers’ mean WTP for irrigation water im-provements is 141.60 Birr/ha/year (2.50 USD/ha/year). The results of bivariate Probit model revealed that croptype, education, relative location to the irrigation scheme, irrigated plot size, and perceived drought risk sta-tistically and positively determine farmers’ WTP for irrigation water improvement. These findings offer valuablepolicy implications on how best to guide practical agricaltural water management. Policy interventions aimed atenhancing farmers’ behavior, awareness, and perception of drought-related issues, while also promoting cashcrop production, are likely to drive more farmers towards a positive WTP for irrigation water improvement.

Nevertheless, ethiopian historiography has devoted little attention to themagnitude of political issues-related urban violence in ethiopia. As a result, the paperattempted to analyse two goals. First, it tries to analyse the historical events of ethiopianurban violence from 1916–1991, and secondly, it tries to explain the tradition ofethiopian leaders to learn from past deeds. to document this extraordinary theme, thepaper grey on both primary sources and published secondary literature that have beenavailable to the writer to date. the collected data was systematically verified, analyzed,and interpreted through qualitative data analysis.

A Systematic Review on Effects of Nitrogen Fertilizer Levels on Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) Production in Ethiopia

Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) holds signifcant agricultural and nutritional importance in Ethiopia; yet, its pro-duction faces challenges, including suboptimal nitrogen fertilizer management. Te aim of this review was to review the possibleefect of nitrogen fertilizer levels on the production of cabbage in Ethiopia. Nitrogen fertilization signifcantly infuences cabbageyield and quality. Moderate to high levels of nitrogen application enhance plant growth, leaf area, head weight, and yield.However, excessive nitrogen levels can lead to adverse efects such as delayed maturity, increased susceptibility to pests anddiseases, and reduced postharvest quality. In Ethiopia, small-scale farmers use diferent nitrogen levels for cabbage cultivation. InEthiopia, NPSB or NPSBZN fertilizers are widely employed for the growing of various crops such as cabbage. 242 kg of NPS and79 kg of urea are the blanket recommendation for the current production of cabbage in Ethiopia. Te existing rate is not conducivefor farmers. Terefore, small-scale farmers ought to utilize an optimal and cost-efective nitrogen rate to boost the cabbage yield.Furthermore, the efectiveness of nitrogen fertilization is infuenced by various factors including the soil type, climate, cabbagevariety, and agronomic practices. Integrated nutrient management approaches, combining nitrogen fertilizers with organicamendments or other nutrients, have shown promise in optimizing cabbage production while minimizing environmentalimpacts. Te government ought to heed suggestions concerning soil characteristics such as the soil type, fertility, and additionalfactors such as the soil pH level and soil moisture contents.

Dry matter yield of Desho grass (Pennisetum pedicellatum) varieties

The experiment was carried out to evaluate the agronomic performance and dry matter yield of thePennisetum pedicellatum varieties (areka, kulmsa, and kindonkosha-591) at Debre Markos University,Ethiopia, during 2023 in a RCBD with three replications. The agronomic performance of all varieties wasmeasured from the six plants that were selected randomly from the middle rows of each plot at 105, 119,and 133 days after planting, and dry matter yield was measured at 135 days after planting. The studyshowed that there were significant differences (p < 0.05) in plant height, number of tillers and leaves,leaf length, and dry matter yield, but the number of nodes and leaf width were not significantly different(p > 0.05) among varieties. The highest values of plant height, number of tillers and leaves per plant, andleaf length and width were measured from the areka variety, followed by the kulmsa variety, while theleast was recorded from the kindonkosha-591 variety. The plant height, number of tillers per plant,number of leaves per plant, and dry matter yield of the areka variety were significantly higher (p < 0.05)than the kulmsa and kindonkosha-591 varieties. The highest dry matter yield was also produced fromareka (11.55 t/ha), followed by kulmsa (8.52) and kindonkosha −591 (7.99 t/ha). The areka grass varietyshowed superior agronomic performance and dry matter yield, suggesting its potential for improvingfeed shortage constraints in the study areas.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate theeffects of E. brucei inoculation with microbial consortia consisted of Bradyrhizobium shewense,Acinetobacter soli and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF)on E. brucei growth, soil nitrogen andphosphorous status after application as a green manure.A field experiment was conducted byinoculating E. Brucei with different microbial consortia. E. brucei inoculated with the microbialconsortia were grown for 150 days. Its shoot length was measured at 60, 90, 120 and 150 daysafter planting. Then, plants were uprooted and mulched as a green manure. The soil nitrogen,available phosphorous and soil organic matter analysis were done. The experimental design wascompletely randomized block design with eight treatments comprised of three replications.Inoculated treatments did not show a significant (p < 0.05) difference in shoot length in the first60 days. However, shoot length was increased between 19.1 and 41.3 %, 10.5–43.4 % and8.7–37.6 %, respectively at 90, 120 and 150 days. The soil organic matter was improved in bothinoculated and un-inoculated treatments. The improvements in the soil organic matter of un-inoculated treatments may be due to the decomposition of un-inoculated plants biomass in thesoil. The B. shewense inoculation improved the soil nitrogen by 17 %. The soil phosphorous wasimproved in 57 % of inoculated treatments. The inoculation of E. brucei with microbial consortiaenhanced its growth and improved soil fertility when applied as a green manure. Inoculating thegreen manure legumes with symbiotically effective rhizobia and plant-beneficial microbes canenhance the growth of E. brucei and its nutrient uptake.

Yield and Multivariate Analysis among Twelve Sugarcane (Saccharum Officinarum L) Genotypes at Mankusa, North Western, Ethiopia

Smallholders cultivated sugarcane for household consumption, immediate cash, and feedinglivestock in Ethiopia. However, its production and productivity are constrained by a lack ofimproved varieties. Sugarcane germplasm was collected from Districts of West Gojjam,Ethiopia, to evaluate yield and its contributing characters and quantify the phenotypic diversityat Mankusa, Jabitehnan, Ethiopia. The experiment was conducted using a randomised completeblock design with three replications for two crop cycles, from April 2020 to March 2023. Datawere recorded for the number of tillers, internode length, sellable stalks, plant height, stalkdiameter, cane yield and biomass yield from twelve genotypes collected. The data recorded weresubjected to analysis of variance, and means were separated using the Duncan Multiple RangeTest at a 5% significance level. Variance and multivariate analysis indicated the existence ofhigh phenotypic diversity between genotypes in all quantitative traits studied. Acc 7/20 and Acc5/20 genotypes produced the highest number of tillers and longest internodes, while Acc 6/20produced the highest number of sellable stalks. The genotype Acc 4/20 was the longest, and thethickest genotype, which could be elite donors for it respected quality traits through crossing.The highest cane yield was recorded from Acc 4/20 (178.04 t/ha), Acc 7/20 (151.41 t/ha), Acc8/20 (134.1 t/ha) and Acc 12/20 (132 t/ha), producing 58, 34, 19 and 17% advantageous fromthe overall genotypes mean, respectively. Cluster analysis grouped the twelve sugarcanegenotypes into four clusters, indicating the possibility of broadening the genetic basis bycrossing genotypes in the different clusters. It also indicated that a cross between cluster II andIII genotypes could create the thickest canes with many sellable stalks. Therefore, genotypes Acc04/20, Acc 07/20, Acc 8/20 and Acc 12/20 have been recommended and must be evaluated in other sugarcane growing areas to exploit their potential.Keywords: Cluster Analysis, PCA, Sugarcane, Variability, Yield
